Fraud Prevention and Management Recommendations Paper CJR-334-Z1 Economic Crime Investigation October 29, 2012 Fraud Prevention and Management Recommendations The purpose of this Fraud Prevention Plan is to set out the approach to dealing with fraud risk within our organization. In order to prevent the types of frauds that have already occurred within our organization it will be necessary to create ââ¬Å"a culture of honesty, openness, and assistanceâ⬠¦..fraud prevention is where the big savings occurâ⬠(Albrecht, Albrecht, Albrecht, Zimbelman, 2012, p.103). EAPââ¬â¢s can help troubled employees with problems caused by gambling, substance abuse, money issues, health, fami ly, and other pressures that enable them to rationalize fraudulent activities. A good internal controls system will prevent the type of fraud the firm has previously experienced. According to the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO), the CEO has ultimate responsibility for any internal controls system. ââ¬Å"More than any other individual, the chief executive sets the tone at the top that affects integrity and ethics and other factors of a positive control environmentâ⬠(COSO, 1992). The control environment will set the overall tone of the organization that is established by senior management and runs throughout the management structure. A good accounting system is another important element of the control system to provide timely information used for decision-making. The Internal Auditor, Audit Committee, Director of Corporate Security, and Corporate Legal Council will need to work together to identify methods to assess risk and implement the appropriate controls. Differences and Similiraties Between Dickens and Hardy
Dickens was born in Portsea, in 12. His father, John Dickens, was a kind and likeable man, but incompetent with money, and due to his financial difficulties they moved to Camden when Dickens was nine. When Charles was twelve his father was arrested and taken to the debtorsââ¬â¢ prison in Southwark. He started working at Warrenââ¬â¢s blacking-warehouse and its strenuous working conditions made an impression on him, later influencing his fiction. He became interested in writing (and acting) and, after having learnt shorthand in his spare time, he began working as a freelance reporter at the Parliament and the Old Bailey. Under the nom de plume Boz he published the eponymous Sketches (36), a collection of short pieces concerning London scenes andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He succeeds not only in making his readers sympathize with the children, but also in proposing them as models of the correct way people should behave to one another. His aim lies in teaching a moral lesson t o the reader. To accomplish this he uses the most effective language, i.e. a careful selection of adjectives, lexical and syntactical repetitions, juxtapositions of images and ideas and hyperbolic and ironic comments, thus achieving the most vivid depictions of life and character ever attempted by any novelist. In Coketown, a fictitious industrial town, Thomas Gradgrind, an educator firmly believing in facts and figures, has founded a school based on the suppression of imagination and feelings, the same theories by which he raises his children Louisa and Tom. His daughter is compelled to marry Josiah Bounderby, a wealthy banker thrice her age, and she accepts so that her brother can be apprenticed at Bounderbyââ¬â¢s bank, yet the marriage proves to be unhappy. Tom, grown up to be dissipated and self-interested, robs his employer, initially managing to make everyone suspect an honest laborer, Stephen Blackpool , then discovered and snuck out of the country by his sister. Ozone Depletion free essay sample
The Ozone layer is located in the Earthââ¬â¢s upper atmosphere. It acts as a barrier and absorbs majority of UV radiation before it hits Earthââ¬â¢s surface. Ozone is made up of three oxygen atoms that are naturally occurring molecules. The depletion of the ozone has become a worldwide issue and is caused by the release of CFCs into the atmosphere. CFCs release chlorine atoms which break down ozone molecules. The depletion of the ozone layer threatens to leave life on Earth unprotected from UV radiation. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) contain chlorine, fluorine and carbon atoms. CFCs can be found in spray cans, in the plastics industry and in refrigerants. When UV rays in the upper atmosphere hit CFC molecules, a carbon-chlorine bond breaks leaving a single chlorine atom. This chlorine atom reacts with the ozone molecule causing it to breakdown. The breakdown of ozone leaves an ordinary oxygen molecule (O2) as well as a chlorine monoxide molecule. We will write a custom essay sample on Ozone Depletion or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Because UV radiation breaks oxygen molecules into single oxygen atoms, the single oxygen atom then breaks up the chlorine monoxide. With the chlorine atom left by itself, it is then able to repeat the process of breaking down more ozone molecules. However, the depletion of the ozone is not only caused by CFCs. Halons, CH3CCI, CCI4, HCFCs, hydrobromofluorocarbons and methyl bromide are all linked with ozone depletion leaving life on earth vulnerable to the effects from exposure to UV radiation. With the depletion of the ozone, UV radiation becomes more accessible to life on Earth and effects from this radiation follow. Since ozone filters UV radiation, with ozone depletion comes higher levels of UV radiation hitting the surface of the Earth. The increase in ultra-violet rays consequently mean higher risk of skin cancers and cataracts in humans and animals. Higher levels of this radiation also damages materials such as plastics, harm certain crops as well as marine animals. Extra UV radiation deters the natural reproductive cycle of phytoplankton (a single celled organism at the bottom of the food chain) Scientists fear that the population of other species will decrease with the loss of phytoplankton. Since the depletion of the ozone layer, researchers have recognised obvious deviations in the reproductive rates of fish, shrimp and crabs as well as frogs and salamanders. These changes in organismââ¬â¢s reproductive rates and higher risks of skin cancer and cataracts can all be linked to the depletion of the ozone layer. Since CFCs have been released into the atmosphere, Earthââ¬â¢s naturally occurring ozone layer has been depleting. The ozone layer above the Antarctic has been majorly affected by CFC pollution since the mid 1980ââ¬â¢s. However, CFCs were banned in 1987 to prevent further damage to the ozone layer. Results of ozone depletion can be dramatically seen throughout the southern spring and summer when the sun shines for longer periods at a time. Due to chlorine reacting with the Ultra-violet rays, ozone is destroyed on a scale of up to 65% during these months. Even though CFCs were banned in the 1980ââ¬â¢s scientists estimate it will take another 50 years for chlorine levels to return to their natural levels. With CFCs being emitted into the atmosphere, the breakdown of ozone has resulted. Without the ozone filtering UV rays, higher levels of radiation are able to hit the Earthââ¬â¢s surface leading to higher rates in skin cancer and cataracts. Ozone depletion has also been linked with the obstruction of organisms natural reproductive cycles. Although they were banned in the late 1980ââ¬â¢s, CFCs will continue to be present in the atmosphere for many more years causing ozone depletion to remain a worldwide issue.

Valuation of Airthread Brief free essay sample
Define the problem Problem that both ACC and ATC faced Problem for American Cable Communication (ACC) 1. The most severe problem for ACC is the increasing in competitors with the trend toward bundle of services. Recently, Incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECââ¬â¢s) which is the firm that normally provide wireless service are expanding its products. ILECââ¬â¢s is growing their video offerings which is the major product of ACC. We believe that this problem require very quick response from Robert Zimmerman, senior vice president of business development, as the technology is continue developing all the time, so ACC should acquire ATC to provide and develop more services. 2. In addition, ACC saw a looming competitive threat from advance wireless networks based on 802. 16n standard for mobile WiMAX. Those networks are expected to offer not only wireless telephony but also internet service which is also the main product of ACC. Problem for AirThread Connections (ATC) 1. We will write a custom essay sample on Valuation of Airthread Brief or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page ATC faced a cost disadvantage relative to its main wireless competitors owned by ILECââ¬â¢s. High operating cost is resulted from moving traffic from cell towers to central switching offices using either landlines leased from competitors or technically cumbersome microwave equipment. This is the most critical problem for ATC, according to Michael Balistreri, the companyââ¬â¢s CFO, he said ââ¬Å"In a commoditized industry, it is usually the low-cost producer that survives and thrivesâ⬠. . Moreover, ATCââ¬â¢s competitors offer more products apart from wireless service which are landline, videos, and internet service. These lead to higher customer acquisition and retention costs, plus slower growth. Assumptions from ACCââ¬â¢s acquisition 1. Both companies could help each other compete in an intensely competitive industry that requires more and more bundle service offerings so the revenue of both companies will be increased. 2. A study done by Rubinstein amp; Ross estimated that ATC can save about 20% in backhaul cost by using ACC fiber lines instead of leasing landlines from other companies. However, Ms. Zhang believes that the cost savings would be gradual. Therefore, she estimated the total system operating cost saving to be 6% realized over four years beginning in 2009. 3. By acquisition, both companies will expand the business market which could have increased the stability and reliability of the companyââ¬â¢s revenues. Moreover, each firm will increase its network utilization and increase cost efficiency as a result.

5 Cases of Colliding Article Functions
5 Cases of Colliding Article Functions 5 Cases of Colliding Article Functions 5 Cases of Colliding Article Functions By Mark Nichol The title of a composition is self-contained; an article (a, an, or the) appearing as the first word of the title cannot serve that role as well as function as an article preceding the title. Discussions and revisions follow each example of this principle below. 1. The Apprentice guru has seen four of his casinos go bankrupt. This sentence cannot appropriate the first word of the title of the television program to serve as the sentenceââ¬â¢s opening article; therefore, the sentence lacks an article. To resolve this issue, use a workaround convention- insert an article for the sentence and elide the titleââ¬â¢s article: ââ¬Å"The Apprentice guru has seen four of his casinos go bankrupt.â⬠(Essentially, unitalicize The, but understand why you did so.) Alternatively, relax the sentence by inserting the article, relocating the noun that the program title modifies so that it precedes the title, and inserting of after that: ââ¬Å"The guru of The Apprentice has seen four of his casinos go bankrupt.â⬠2. The Danish Girl star showed up in court in Los Angeles on Friday with a bruise on her face. Use the same solution here: ââ¬Å"The Danish Girl star showed up in court in Los Angeles on Friday with a bruise on her face.â⬠(Or write ââ¬Å"The star of The Danish Girl showed up in court in Los Angeles on Friday with a bruise on her face.â⬠) 3. Smith is expected to shoot The Untouchables remake. The same problem exists, and the same solutions apply, when the title appears elsewhere in the sentence: ââ¬Å"Smith is expected to shoot the Untouchables remakeâ⬠(but, in this case, lowercase the in addition to unitalicizing it) or ââ¬Å"Smith is expected to shoot the remake of The Untouchables.â⬠4. Donââ¬â¢t miss the A Christmas Story marathon. Titles beginning with the article a (or an) should be treated the same way: ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t miss the Christmas Story marathonâ⬠or- with further revision necessary in this case- ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t miss the marathon movie event celebrating A Christmas Story.â⬠5. Berrigan credited Dorothy Day, founder of The Catholic Worker newspaper, with introducing him to the pacifist movement and influencing his thinking about war. An article that begins the title of a periodical publication should never be italicized: ââ¬Å"Berrigan credited Dorothy Day, founder of the Catholic Worker newspaper, with introducing him to the pacifist movement and influencing his thinking about war.â⬠(This is a style convention of necessity, because periodicals are inconsistent about whether they use an article- for example, compare copies of two preeminent American newspapers to note the difference in the official titles of the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times- and itââ¬â¢s a burden to try to keep track of which publications follow which style.)
